Statement

My paintings are a remembrance and reimagining of my childhood Victorian home and thus of the meaning of home. I employ architecture, antique objects and portraiture to create imaginative compositions with a narrative quality. Nouveau tiles from my current home, vintage neckties, heating grates and distinctive furniture are all employed for their patterns, design, and nostalgic qualities. The viewer can use these environments to create their own domestic pasts and presents.

In my work, my youthful home is a space where objects float and oceans and sky invade interior spaces in a dreamlike setting that is both comforting and disquieting. I build distinct visual landscapes to connect my own inner life with that of viewers.  You can return home, but those familiar places are always changing. The spaces we have lived in haunt us, so we revisit and remake them all our lives.
